8/20/2006 The Plowboys participated in the 2nd annual Cream City Festival in Milwaukee this past weekend, scoring 3 victories against 1 loss against teams from Illinois and Wisconsin.
Game 1 on Saturday was played against the Eagle Diamonds from Waukesha, Wi. The Plowboys let the Diamonds jump out to a three run lead in the first two innings, and then spent the rest of the game fighting back. The comeback came up 1 run short as the Diamonds held on 3 to 2. The Plowboy runs were scored by Pat ‘ Splinter’ Ryan and Greg ‘ Long Arm ‘ Pas on two RBI singles by Steve ‘ Ironhead ‘ South.
Game 2 pitted the Plowboys against the Midway Village Marauders from Rockford. This game was all Plowboys as they scored 4 runs in the second and never looked back to win 5 to 1. Runs were scored by Steve ‘ Old Man ‘ Herald, Dean ‘ Nozrok ‘ Korzon, Brent ‘ Trick Knee ‘ Yurschak and two by ‘ Ironhead ‘ South. Game 1 on Sunday the Plowboys took on the host Milwaukee Cream Citys. If the last game was all Plowboys, this game was ALL Plowboys as they laid out a nine run second inning on the Cream Citys led by a three run home run by Rob ‘Moose’ Baker. All of the Plowboys had a hit and all scored at least one ace. The Cream Citys put on a late charge, but were shut down as the Plowboys went on to win 13 to 6.
That fourth and last game on Sunday put the Plowboys against the 5th Wisconsin Volunteers. The Volunteers were a more than worthy opponent and showed early the were here to win as they took off for a six run first inning and an 8 to 4 lead after 2 innings. The Plowboy bats came to life in the third with the ‘Boys scoring 6 runs led by a bases clearing grand slam homer by Greg ‘Long Arm’ Pas. The Plowboys put another 4 on the board in the 5th and held off a furious Vols rally to take the win 14 to 13.
Special thanks to the Cream Citys for hosting a fine tournament and we look forward to returning in 2007.
Get well wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery to Don ‘Deadwood’ Forrest of the Creston Regulators, we all hope to see you back at the game soon.
