6/25/2006  Match Report by Steve "Iron Head" South

On June 24th the Plowboys participated in the Creston Sesquicentennial Tournament. The Plowboys were ready to challenge teams from all over the Midwest. The matches started at 9am with the Plowboys challenging the Oregon Ganymedes. The Plowboys started fast tallying 4 aces in the top of the second inning, the Ganymedes returned the favor scoring six of their own in the bottom of the inning to take a lead they would never relinquish, taking the win 10 to 5 in the 60 minute timed game.  Match 2  the Plowboys took on the Eagles from Washington, Missouri. The Plowboys again started fast tallying an ace in the first with Tom “Flynn” Roupp knocking in Chad “Chadder” Petersen. The Eagles then tallied one of their own in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at one. The Plowboy offense launched in the third with aces scored by Steve “Old Man” Herald and Tom “Mulehead” McClelland, but once again the Eagles rallied to tally 3 aces in the bottom of the frame and held on for a 6 to 4 win.  Match 3 pitted the Plowboys against the Somonauk Blue Stockings. This game saw the Plowboys battling from behind the entire game as the Blue Stockings scored 4 runs in the first three innings, and although they tried the Plowboys could not overcome their lead and took the defeat 5 to 2.

The Plowboys would like to thank the host team Creston Regulators for a fine tournament and also look forward to their home opener on July 8th against the Elk Grove Village Bucks at the Herrick Middle School Ball Field at 11:00am
