    The Plowboys hail from Downers Grove Illinois, 20 miles west of Chicago.  In 2004, a group of local men organized a rousing exhibition match of Base Ball.  It was decided at that time to officially organize the Downers Grove Plowboys Vintage Base Ball Club.  The inaugural season commenced in 2005 to roaring success - see the schedule and photo link above. 

2008 Plowboy Classic

In the spirit of Downers Grove’s Heritage Festival celebration, the Downers Grove Plowboys will host the 2nd annual “Plowboy Classic” Vintage base ball tournament June 28-29.  Six Vintage Clubs from Illinois & Indiana will join the Plowboys for two days of base ball matches on the field between Herrick Middle School and DG North. Scheduled opponents:  Hobart Indiana Deep River Grinders - Somonauk Blue Stocking - Oregon Ganymedes -  Lockport Sleepers - Creston Regulators - Midway Marauders.  The Plowboys are a living history program of the DG Park District Museum and re-create base ball matches by the original rules of base ball from 1858.
Come re-live the past of Downers Grove and enjoy the fast-paced action of bare knuckle base ball.

The 2006 Matches - The Plowboys played 26 games, traveled to three states, played in four tournaments, met a bunch of great people, made new friends and saw some old ones. The season ended with a 7 and 19 record, with wins coming against Elk Grove Village (2) , Milwaukee Cream Citys, Midway Marauders, Lockport Sleepers, Somonauk Blue Stockings, and the Wisconsin 5th Volunteers. 

2006 also saw the team elect their first MVP, Greg ‘Long arm” Pas.  and Defensive Player of the Year,  Chad ‘Chadder’ Petersen and also had two players participate in all 26 games, Steve ‘Old Man” Herald and Tom ‘ Mulehead’ McClelland.

2007 promises to be just as exciting with plans to travel back to Wisconsin, over to Indiana (will the road construction EVER end?) back out to Western Il. And possibly up to Michigan for the first time. Most of the same teams plus a few new ones will be making the trip to Downers’ Grove with plans for our Second Annual Plowboy Classic in the summer.

Big thanks to Karen Shannon, Heather Bigeck, Evelyn Zach, and everyone at the Downers’ Grove Park District Museum, Sue Herald and her seamstress squad for our cool looking uniforms, Caprice ‘Digits’ Zamora who put in as many hours keeping score as we did playing, and last but not least all of the ‘kranks’ who came out to watch and root us on.
