The Plowboys hail from Downers Grove
Illinois, 20 miles west of Chicago. In 2004, a group of local men
organized a rousing exhibition match of Base Ball. It was decided at that
time to officially organize the Downers Grove Plowboys Vintage Base Ball Club.
The inaugural
season commenced in 2005 to roaring success and the action continues this year.
The
Plowboys are a living history program of the DG Park District Museum
and the club participates in base ball matches by the original rules of base ball
from 1858. This includes playing with no mitts - wooden
bats only - custom stitched "lemon peel" baseballs. The play
on the field allows no walks - one bound outs - and a collection of
other rules not found in modern baseball. Plowboys also
proudly sport the colors of bright red Jersey and striped Red and
White caps.
Come re-live the past of Downers Grove and enjoy the fast-paced
action of bare knuckle base ball.
All Hometown Matches
are free
admission at Herrick Middle School field on Saratoga Avenue in Downers Grove.
